Brought up on bands like Sonic Youth, The Jesus Lizard or My Bloody Valentine,Bordeaux-based outfit MARS RED SKY had no idea that they were about to becomeFrench stoner scene cornerstones when they founded the band in 2007. Yet theheavy psychedelic trio already share many similarities and obvious connections withthe „heavy and slow“ community. Free from any musical genre consideration, themusicians build their very own style on the tracks of the underground pioneers.Julien Pras‘ ethereal and melodic voice emerges from a thick and complex rhythm,carried by sci-fi literature’s lyricism. Almost cinematic, MARS RED SKY’s soundinghas a peculiar and unique flavor, standing out within the heavy rock scene.
To record their self-titled debut album, they shut themselves up in a remote housein the wilderness of the Spanish desert. Hypnotic, exhilarating, heavy, the releaseconquered the very select heavy family and brought the trio to the biggestinternational rock and metal stages (SXSW, Hellfest, Desertfest, Roadburn,Eurockéennes), as well as opening for major acts such as Sleep, Dinosaur Junior,Kyuss Lives!, Killing Joke, Detroit or Gojira. On stage, they manage to recreate theirsophisticated studio atmospheres and to deliver the special sonic touch thatcharacterizes them. Their live shows absorb the listener, lose him into a visual andvibrant limbo and take him into another dimension. Beyond a simple concert, it is areal sensorial experience that is proposed.
A series of EP releases follow, including a split with post-metal sextet Year Of NoLight in 2012. In 2014, MARS RED SKY begin a collaboration with French labelListenable Records and welcome their new drummer Matgaz to replace BenoîtBusser who decides to leave the band. Together they complete the albums“Stranded In Arcadia“ (2014), „Apex III (Praise For The Burning Soul)“ (2016) and“The Task Eternal“ (2019). Matgaz’s vision and musicianship create depth in thetrio’s personality, which take a darker and more massive turn throughout thesethree productions.
Eager for original projects, MARS RED SKY decide to release their debut album in December 2021, to celebrate the band’s 10th anniversary, by providing an onlinetool for re-mixing it. The album is available via their own record label Mrs Red Sound,through which they support the French heavy rock scene.
The band’s latest EP (out April 2023 on Mrs Red Sound & Vicious Circle) featuresdark folk artist Queen Of The Meadow. The power of psychedelic heavy meets thedepth of dark folk harmonies in a complex and exhilarating flavor. The daringcombination opens up the genres to a whole new dimension.

neànder besteht aus Musikern der Blackgazer „Ånd“, der Hardcore-Punks von „Patsy O’Hara“, den Sludgern „Earth Ship“ und ehemaligen Live-Band-Mitgliedern von „Casper“.
Nach der Veröffentlichung ihres Debütalbums spielte die Band unzählige europaweite Konzerte und eine eigene Tournee, u.a. mit YOB, Russian Circles, Bongripper, Pelican, Inter Arma & Big Business.
„eremit“, das neue Album, ist der Nachfolger zu einem der meistbeachteten Instrumental-Alben der letzten Jahre, einem wahren Monument für das Genre. Laut dem britischen RnR Magazin war das Debüt „der Beweis dafür, dass es Schönheit in der Melancholie gibt“, das deutsche Rolling Stone Magazin vergab 4 von 5 Punkten und beschrieb ihre Soundflächen als eine „tote, schwarze Mondlandschaft“. Für „eremit“ sprach u.a. Jens Uthoff von der TAZ eine „uneingeschränkte Empfehlung“ aus.
neànder entwickeln auf „eremit“ ihren ganz eigenen Sound eindrucksvoll weiter: Schwebende Ambient-Musik kombiniert mit der Intensität von norwegischem Black Metal, die epischen Songs kratzen dabei gerne mal an der 10-Minuten-Marke. Von Black Sabbath beeinflusste, dröhnende Doom-Riffs, steigen zu sphärischen, verträumten Klanglandschaften auf, sozusagen das fehlende Bindeglied zwischen Explosions in the Sky und Bongripper.
